Nick Novelli

Director of Research and Engineering

As Director of Research Engineering at Yale CEA, Nick coordinates fundamental experimentation, applied concept demonstrations, and full-building-scale working prototypes, in pursuit of the health and sustainability of the built environment. In previous roles, he has lead development, manufacturing, and architectural integration for a building-integrated hardware startup, consulted on high-performance architecture, designed multi- and hyperspectral imaging devices, and renovated houses. Nick earned his Ph.D. at the Center for Architecture Science & Ecology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he researched integrated building systems, explored the utility of climatic energy sources and sinks for services in the built environment, and worked to expand the opportunities for net-zero and net-positive buildings through more nuanced management of light, heat, electricity, and material flows.
